TOPIC: Identifying lesson plan tips and tricks
INTRODUCTION:
Enabling Object (or EO): Identifying Lesson Plan Tips

What: During this lesson you will learn some lesson planning tips.
Why: it is important for an instructor to have a format in which to submit a lesson plan and it is helpful to know tips on instruction.
Where: this will be applied during lessons and times you are required to teach.
Standard: by the end of this class you will be informed of some lesson planning tips and tricks.
BODY:
Planning for a lecture:
1. Supporting Material:
A) Are the objectives adequately supported by pertinent material?
B) is the supporting material varied enough to simulate and maintain interest, to allow for changes in pace and to provide diversity?
C) does the supporting material contain generalizations, emotional appeals or false reasoning?
D) does the support for one point bend naturally into the next idea to be presented?
2. Cadet's Participation
A) does the lesson plan include meaningful activities to help the cadets achieve the objectives? For example, are the cadets to recall something from their own experiences?
B) Are they to visualize a concept?
C) Are they to imagine a hypothetical situation?
D) Are they to answer questions?
E) if the cadets are to learn what the instructor wishes them to learn, just what activity must they perform?
F) Have you been specific in listing this activity?
3. Objectives:
A) IS the support for each objective suitable for the level of learning?
B) is the WHAT of the subject described adequately to ensure the cadets achievement of the knowledge level?
C) Are the how's and why's the lesson is being taught as well as for the information being taught developed adequately to help the cadets achieve understanding?
D) is the depth of support for each objective compatible with the desired level of learning?
Questions for Preparing:
1. Introduction:
A) Does the introduction prepare the cadets for what they are about to learn?
B) Does it offer the cadets good reasons for learning the material? (why are you teaching them?)
C) Does it present a concise, logical organizational patter to be followed in the presentation?
2. Visual Supports
A) Does the plan exploit every opportunity to help the cadets visualize facts, ideas concepts?
B) Do the visual aids clarify the organization?
C) Do they further the lesson objectives?
D) is the colour used to highlight main concepts?
E) Are the aids simple?
3. Preparation:
A) has the presentation been thoroughly prepared?
B) Have other instructors listened to it and critiqued its effectiveness?
C) are you familiar with the organization pattern to give a successful spontaneous presentation?
CONCLUSION:
In this lesson you have learned about some tips for lesson planning.

Keep the introduction very concise. Be sure to include a greeting of some sort.

Break up your points to allow for more precise instruction.
1. Supporting Material:
A) Are the objectives adequately supported by pertinent material?
B) is the supporting material varied enough to simulate and maintain interest, to allow for changes in pace and to provide diversity?
C) does the supporting material contain generalizations, emotional appeals or false reasoning? (Eliminate these)
D) does the support for one point bend naturally into the next idea to be presented?
(QUESTIONS) Allow the Cadets to ask questions after every point, reiterate if necessary.
PO CHECK: Verbal Question (PO Checks can come in alternate forms as well, you are asking them questions at this point. Ask how, why, where questions, do not ask yes/no questions)

Keep your lesson plans concise, with as much visual aid as possible (ie. Charts, diagrams, pictures, video etc), this relieves some effort on teaching, keeps them interested and provides the maximum information output.
The more questions they ask the better, allow for as much questioning as possible.
KNOW WHAT YOU TEACH, know other relevant information that might be applicable.
